FollettShelf is automatically populated with MARC data for Follett eBooks and eliminates the need for you to import records into Follettshelf. However some customers want their patrons to experience FollettShelf via the custom URL and also load MARC records into their Library System (OPAC). If you choose this option please understand that there is no communication between FollettShelf and the MARC records, so patrons should be directed to the FollettShelf URL.

Follett provides you with an opportunity to load a sample eBook MARC record in your circulation system. Since there is no communications between this MARC record and FollettShelf, this MARC record will take you directly to the eBook. Although this method of reading Follett eBooks will work, the recommended method is through FollettShelf.

The sample MARC record for "The Call of the Wild" by Jack London can be downloaded by clicking here (For Firefox users, right click and "Save Link as" to the desired location).

MARC records for Follett eBooks can be imported using the same process that you use when importing records for your regular print books. Once you have imported the sample MARC record into your circulation system, the eBook is accessed through your OPAC, using the link in the 856 tag. If you need assistance with the import process for your circulation system, please contact your circulation system vendor for assistance.

Note: We make this same eBook record available to all customers for testing so it will not contain local holdings information specific to your school. If your system requires a material number to make items available to your patrons, you will need to add this information to the record after importing the sample.
